Still Life with Grapes, and My Mothers Lace, originally uploaded by photographerpainterprintmaker.
Grapes! Grapes were on sale at the local Price Chopper. When my hubby brought them home I thought, now’s there’s an answer to this weeks challenge. I dusted off my trusty Nikon, and dug into the linen cupboard. The sun was bright and my spirits high. That is until I tried to turn on my camera and found that I once again forgot to shut it off and drained the battery. I didn’t panic. I had a few hours of daylight left in this wondrous day.
I popped the battery into the fast charger and set a timer. Maybe an hour would give it time to charge? Well, it took two, and the sun was fast moving and my plans were close to being lost.
Five o’clock, the golden hour of sunlight arrives and thankfully the battery is charged. With a bit of jury rigging I was able to set up this still life, in the warm natural light of a February sun.

Here is another for Sunday Stills. My husband and I belong to the Essex – Kent Cage Bird Society. We raise cockatiels, and English Budgerigar’s. This photo was cropped in the Gimp. So as not to upset the parents, I used a flashlight to light the chicks. The photo was taken with my point and shoot Canon. Being responsible breeders, and due to the bad economy last year, we chose only to raise one nest of chicks. We have over thirty birds in our aviary. The hen is a rare variety. We were very pleased with this mating, and took home many trophies from this single nest. I will try to post photo’s of all the trophies, these tiny fuzzy babies brought home from the Eastern Canadian Classic Show of 2009. I will also post photo’s of them as they look now. We’ve kept these chicks to add to our breeding program.

I’ve been pretty busy of late, and have not been able to stop and breathe. I really liked this challenge, and am looking forward to what emotions this photo elicits. Happy to be a part of this great challenge.
This photo was taken at the Youmacon2009 convention held in Dearborn, Mi. My nephew posted on facebook that he wanted to go, and I jumped at the opportunity to take him. I knew it would be a great photo op, and a fun day with him. I was not disappointed.
Sunday Stills, the next challenge: Moods and Emotions
This will take a bit of explaining. This challenge is for you to get a shot that enables a response in the person who views your pic not one that is your personal emotion. For example if I see a pic of a tranqual stream or a sunrise I feel mellow, If I see a pic of doggie smiles or a horse doing his rolling in dirt thing It makes me smile, you get the idea. So lets see just how much talent we have out there and have some fun with this one, I’m already writing ideas in my notebook for pics and can’t wait to get started.

I wracked my brain trying to decide what to do for this challenge. I decided to use technology to mess with my image. Also, my image is of old technology, and taken with my old point and shoot. It is the pump house located at our family vacation property. I think I really could have pushed the envelope a lot more on this photo, and I may post a further edited one later. I used The Gimp. It is a wonderful FREE program that is just as good as the mega expensive Photoshop program, and even better in my eyes since I don’t have to shell out any cash for it. If you can’t afford Photoshop check out the gimp.

This fall was extremely warm, and my plants decided it was spring. Not only did my Maple tree bud, but my clematis decided to give me one last beautiful bloom. I photographed it on an overcast day, and a sunny day. Today, I post two versions of one of the overcast photo’s. I hope you like them. If I get the opportunity I will post a version of the sunny day one as well.

06 Sunday Dec 2009
This is my first attempt at the Sunday Stills challenge. It’s taken me three days to try to remember what little html I know so I can post here. I’m glad I started a couple days ahead. I hope to be participating in more challenges. We have a lot of pets, as we raise Cockatiels, and English Budgerigars. Since, Friday was Pugsley’s first day home, I decided to concentrate on him. I have a lot more photo’s that I took on Friday, but I only put up three. Hopefully, next time I will have more to say along with the photo’s.
Have a wonderful week everyone.
