Dogwood sketch

Dogwood sketch, originally uploaded by photographerpainterprintmaker.

Another rainy day. Friday, my fellow artist Margaret and I head out to do some Plein Air painting. When the weather does not co-operate we paint in the studio. We either work on unfinished paintings or pull out our photographs.

Two weeks ago we were scouting places to paint. I gave my camera a great workout at Wilistead Park. Here is a drawing from one of my photographs from that day.

Northern Yellow Shafted Flicker, originally uploaded by photographerpainterprintmaker.

Friday morning a colourful visitor came to dine on my front lawn. He is a Northern Yellow Shafted Flicker. I had to shoot this through my dirty screened in front window, so please excuse the fuzzyness. I really need to do some window cleaning. I switched to video mode just in time to catch him fly away. Needless to say he made my day.

When my mother passed, my father came to live with my husband and I. I continued working until it became apparent that he needed full time care. I left my job to care for him full time. When life for us stabilized, I took the opportunity to pursue an arts degree.

In my second year at the University of Windsor I began my studies in photography. Photography was my passion, and my father’s as well. On one assignment I photographed a day in my father’s life. These photos turned into a book, “Don’t Grow Old, the advice of John C. Clarke.” The final photo I took that day, was of my father’s hands as he sat on the side of his bed, and said goodnight.
Goodnight dear.

Here is a link to the online version of the book, Don’t Grow Old.

Sunday Stills challenge for the week, hands.

Or, I spy with my little eye something that is ORANGE! This weeks Sunday still challenge turned out to be a lot of fun. My Homeee, sis-in-law and I set out looking for all things orange to shoot. Hope you enjoy our day, we certainly did.

MyHomeee
My Homeee wanted to make sure we knew what our target was, so she dressed in Orange to remind us.

Our first sighting was newsworthy.

Our second sighting would take us places.

My Homeee and I could not believe our eyes when we spotted this vintage A & W. This is actually their 2nd building which in itself was built some 60 years ago. The original A & W was located down the street in Elizabeth Park. A & W has had a location in Trenton since 1937, WHO knew they were around that long?!

Sun you say? Well if you live in Windsor you know that if you don’t like the weather stick around and it will change, and changes were on the horizon. When I discovered the weather was turning for the worse, I went out in search of a sunset. It was an extremely dull day, but I managed to catch this shot at around 6PM on Tuesday.
