When my mother passed, my father came to live with my husband and I. I continued working until it became apparent that he needed full time care. I left my job to care for him full time. When life for us stabilized, I took the opportunity to pursue an arts degree.
In my second year at the University of Windsor I began my studies in photography. Photography was my passion, and my father’s as well. On one assignment I photographed a day in my father’s life. These photos turned into a book, “Don’t Grow Old, the advice of John C. Clarke.” The final photo I took that day, was of my father’s hands as he sat on the side of his bed, and said goodnight.
Here is a link to the online version of the book, Don’t Grow Old.
Sunday Stills challenge for the week, hands.
That is so special! How special to share something that meant a lot to both of you! Thanks for sharing.
A wonderful man, a beautiful book of memories – keeping family close is the key. He loved his family and he loved his history- Australia, boyscouts and model trains. Thanks Gaye
Beautiful, and so touching!
A wonderful photo with a wonderful story!
What do people call each other when they had gone to the same school or university?
I was going to post one, ” I found her” when you last posted you were from Windsor. Now, It is even better. You went to the same university as I did. I stayed at laurie hall. Did I get the spelling right?
Taking care of the elderly is difficult. I didn’t stay with my elderly relatives as I was living in different countries. I appreciate going for 2 weeks shortly before my Dad died. It was so precious.
Cheers,
Ann
I believe the word you are looking for is alumni. We are both alumni of the University of Windsor.
What a wonderful project and I love the pic.
Very nice..:-)
I enjoyed reading this and seeing pictures of your father, my son-in-law’s grandfather! Jack spoke often of him. Wouldn’t he get a kick out Jackie, his great-grandson?! I think they would get along great, were he still here with us!
He loved everyone of his grandchildren, and great grandchildren. I’m sure he would definitely would get a kick out of Jackie. I can see it now, he and Jackie sitting there sharing secrets and conspiring to get our goats.
