Lady Gouldian Finch Pair., originally uploaded by photographerpainterprintmaker.

I am so pleased with my Blue Lady Gouldien pair. They have raised me 8 babies. This is the last time I will let them go to nest this year. They and their babies are in incredible shape. It is hard to breed Lady Gouldian’s. Many breaders opt to foster the eggs out to society finches. I feel that they need to be parent raised. I’m so happy this pair are such good parents.

The civic holiday weekend saw four members of the “Windsor & Essex County Plein Air Society” making a 9 hour trek (7 1/2 if you’ve a lead foot, and don’t stop to pee) to Wilberforce, Ontario for the third anniversary of the “Brush with the Highlands Plein Air Festival.”

What an incredible journey! This tiny town opened its arms wide to 47 wonderful Plein Air Artists. Tracey Lee Green, a young woman with vision, masterminded this brilliant festival.

Tracey worked tirelessly finding sponsors for prizes that totaled $1,500. She offered the grounds of her beautiful rolling wooded estate to campers. She also provided a list of accommodations for those who were not campers.

Margaret, Mary and I stayed at the Bostonian Motel. This quaint motel was a bit older, but the units had full kitchens, which suited our needs perfectly. We especially liked the fact that the price fit into our budget, and it was very close to town. The owner, Roberta, was a lovely lady, who’s kindness and generosity won our hearts. We’ve already booked this motel for our return next year.

On Thursday they had workshops for children and adults. We arrived just in time to register and hand in our paintings for the Dry competition.

I’m told by Patrick, the fourth member of our team, that we missed a great evening. The campers brought their guitars, and voices together for a fun time. We plan on arriving at least day earlier next year. In fact we may just come a week early, or stay an extra week so we can take advantage of more painting days.

Friday night, we had a great time getting acquainted with our fellow artists, at Tracey’s home. One of her friends provided her P.A. system, and extensive Karaoke collection. It’s been a long time since I sang, but I braved it and took up the mic. Luckily no one had any rotten tomatoes to toss my way!

Saturday night was the grand finale. Tracey’s friends cooked us the best bar-b-q ever, and they even had Portobello mushrooms, and a whole salmon for the vegetarians among us.

The evening finished up with the best bonfire ever! The judge and his wife were also very talented folk singers. Their jaunty ditties had our feet a tapping. I almost ran my battery out taking photo’s of the bonfire.

Sunday morning we had to be up early to hand in our wet paintings, to be judged. After we dropped them off we went to “The Algonquin Cookhouse” for breakfast. Many people we met highly recommended the place so we had to check it out. What a pleasant surprise. They offered high quality food, and drink at very reasonable prices. We dined here twice during our stay.

All in all, we had a wonderful time. The painting that accompanies this article was my first painting of the weekend, and I think it is one of my best ever. I will be posting more photo’s of the event soon, so keep an eye on this site for updates.

I could have spent the whole summer on this incredible old farm. Here are a few photo’s I was able to take here. There are so many more, I could blog about them for an entire year. I hope to add more soon. Keep watching as I think this site is about to get very busy.

Mill Street Windmill Replica, originally uploaded by photographerpainterprintmaker.

The spring may have been wet, but we have been blessed with some very wonderful days this summer, and this one was one of them. Monday July 4th found us on a historic site for both the US and Canada. This replica of a 19th century grist mill is located across the street from the Duff Baby House.

The Duff Baby house is listed on Canada’s Historic Places web site. They say:

“As a colonel of the militia during the War of 1812, Baby was one of 600 soldiers captured by American troops. The house survived attack, occupation, and looting by the Americans, but required numerous repairs following the war’s end. ”

What a place to be on July 4th! A place steeped in historic events between the US and Canada.

My best two female friends and I ventured out to Amherstburg this morning to paint during the Garden Tour. We were not disappointed as the gardens were in full bloom. I’ve taken to doing smaller watercolours in my Moleskine. I have fallen head over heals in love with this book. I bought two larger one’s when I was in California, but I’ve yet to take the plastic off them. We have an exciting summer planned for the Windsor & Essex County Plein Air Society in this our third summer.

Just an incredible day in Amherstburg. I wish we could have stayed longer.

And there’s the Ocean!

So, I’ve not had much time to tell you about my trip to California last month. So, just for giggles, here’s my one and only photo of the Pacific Ocean. My cousin wanted to take me but I would not let her. Why? Well the ocean was at least an hours drive away from her home. I told her before I went to visit that they didn’t need to entertain me. I wanted to see them, and not the local tourist spots. Everyone leads busy lives, and they are no exception. We made a trip into LaJolla because her birds needed their beaks trimmed, and that’s when I got to see the Ocean! YAY!

The 8th Hole, originally uploaded by photographerpainterprintmaker.

The 8th Hole at Roseland Golf Course. It was a beautiful sunny day on Monday, May 9th, 2010. Finally we got some warm weather, although it was still cool in the shade. The golf course was teeming with golfers eager to get out on the course. I really enjoyed painting this sketch. It is my first double page sketch in my first Moleskine. I am so loving this book. It goes with me everywhere.

Flowers from Jeanne DSC_0928, originally uploaded by photographerpainterprintmaker.

A knock on the door brought a delightful surprise today. It was a lovely bouquet from a dear friend of mine who had to move out west. We met only a year ago through my Plein Air outings. Jeanne is a wonderful artist, and a beautiful woman. It was heartbreaking to meet someone so nice only to loose her to a large move. Thankfully the internet allows us to keep in touch, but it definitely is not the same. We did get to share some great times last summer drawing and painting together.

Today was such a beautiful day that I was able to open up the back door and take some lovely photos in the natural light. Mind you the back room is our mud room, so I had to disguise the junk with some drapery. I think this photo turned out rather well.

I wish I had time to paint them. I’ve got a couple of big things on my plate these days. One is getting my artwork organized for Margaret’s and my show next week. The other is helping Patricia to get an Ontario Arts Council grant written. Maybe I will get a moment to breath, and in that moment I can paint or draw these beautiful flowers.

YAY! MUD’s BACK!!, originally uploaded by photographerpainterprintmaker.

Well… Pugsley is happier than a pig in poo poo. The mud’s back! I on the other hand am going to have to strangle this mutt. He’s so proud to be muddy. He also loves water. I swear he gets muddy deliberately so he can get a bath. He runs right to the tub and waits like you see him here. He tries to drink the water from the shower hose. After I hose him down he want’s right back out again! GAH!! I wanted a lap dog. He’s anything but a lap dog. But, I would not trade him in for Love nor Money.

This photo was taken by my sister on my niece’s 5th birthday. My Dad and niece had a bond like no other. The photo was sorely abused under a magnet frame on my refrigerator for many years. I felt the need to rescue it.
