Kildare & Len’s from Windsor Regional Hospital, Met Campus Cafeteria, originally uploaded by photographerpainterprintmaker.

Went with Sheldon on Tuesday for his check up at Windsor Western Hospital. It looked like we were in for a long wait. This time we went to the cafeteria for tea, and pastry. YUM! I brought my new sketch kit with me. This house on the corner of Kildare and Len’s has always been a favorite of mine. I just might go back and sketch some more houses from the cafeteria. Especially since it’s only a block from home. I’ve had just a wonderful January 2011, and this is the first sketch of February 2011, in my Christmas present to me, my first Watercolour Moleskine! I love it! I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds in store.

Keep your pencils sharp, your watercolours wet, and close at hand!

Cold and Blustery Day in Kingsville

12 Sunday Dec 2010

This is just a mild spring zephyr compared to the big wind of ’67. Or was it, uh, ’76? Oh, well, no matter. Oh, I remember the big blow well. Owl, Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day, 1968.

I think this day was the day that spoke loudly to our Plein Air group. “It’s too dang cold to be doing this!” But, a beautiful blustery day it was. It was Saturday, October, 30, 2010. We arrived at 10:00 a.m. and were thankful that the washrooms at Lakeside Park in Kingsville, Ontario were still open to the public. I know that seems like a strange thing to be thankful for, but trust me as a woman washrooms are a big priority!

Margaret and I were the first to arrive. We happily waited in the warm car sipping our coffee, and munching on our sandwiches. We didn’t have to wait long for three other brave souls to arrive. I must admit that thoughts of turning back entered our minds. But, we sucked up our civilized instincts and soldiered on to fight the wind and the cold.

We wandered around and finally found a scenic spot that was sheltered by two beautiful full spruce trees. The five of us hunkered down and got to work. The trees in this park are magnificent. My photos can not capture their rugged beauty. Next year we plan to come back in the warmer weather.

BUSY Busy busy Summer!

02 Thursday Sep 2010

I can’t believe it’s September!  I must ask forgiveness of everyone who’s stopped by in the last two months.  So I will post just a sample of what I’ve been up to this summer.  Last summer a friend of mine and I started the Windsor & Essex County Plein Air Society.  We made a pledge to ourselves that we would get out and paint every week.  We’ve succeeded!  I took to Facebook with our group and started to invite people, and there are now 9 of us who get together every week!

OH!!  I also designed a logo, watermark for all my work.  I was looking at the wordpress logo, and suddenly I realized that subconsciously I chose my blog name with all words starting with P for a reason.  DUH… the simplicity of the WordPress logo inspired me.  What would PPP  look like in a circle.  I like it, I hope you do too.  I’m thinking of getting a sign for my van window.

Plein Air Paintings 2009

25 Tuesday May 2010

I’ve been so busy posting my photo’s that I’ve neglected my paintings. So, I’ve decided to remedy that by posting them on a Tuesday. Here’s some painted last year. If you are interested in purchasing something let me know. As precious as they are to me I will sell them, after all I do need art supplies!

So, I bet you are wondering what is a Plein Air Painting? En plein air is a French expression which means “in the open air”, and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors. There is no greater joy for me then to combine painting and the great outdoors.

I would consider this more of a sketch than an actual watercolour. It was done in a small Dick Blick sketch book that I don’t even think they make anymore. It was a gift from my dear friend Margaret Dawson. The two of us are dedicated to meeting every Friday to paint. Stay tuned for more work.
